Aussie Greg Chalmers holds of rampaging Tiger Woods to win Emirates Australian Open

Australian Greg Chalmers was barely able to contain a late charge by the mighty Tiger Woods to post his second Australian Open title at the scenic Lakes Golf Club in Sydney, November 13. Chalmers pulled in a humble three-under, 69 on the final day to stay
clear of the fast approaching countryman John Senden and a rampaging Woods. Senden carded a final round of even-par, while Woods, showing visible signs of a strong comeback, pulled in his second round of five-under, 67.
"Two holes on the back nine today, and I putted awful yesterday, or I would have been right there," Woods said. "I felt great, It's nice to finally be healthy again."
Former world number one equaled the lowest round on the final day, and demonstrated excellent control in the heat of the final holes. He pulled in a round of five-under for the consecutive second time in the event, finishing for 11-under, 277.
Chalmers, winner of the 1998 Australian Open at Royal Adelaide, carded his eighth professional win. He has played on the European Tour but now plays at the PGA Tour.
Four Australians and an American finished for the joint fourth including Adam Scott, Jason Day, Geoff Ogilvy, Nick O’ Hern and Nick Watney with their aggregate scores of nine-under, 279. Day, who had done well in the previous three rounds, fell in for a
terrible two-over, 74 on the final day to lose his grasp on the title. He finished four shots behind the lead, playing in the group of Woods. The young Aussie though, was least disappointed with his performance.
"If I keep putting myself in these kinds of positions, it's only a matter of time I learn the formula and break through and start to win," said Day, who has only one PGA TOUR win in his four years on the U.S. tour. "I'm very positive about where my game
is right now."
Another group of local players Aaron Baddeley and Ryan Haller finished for a joint ninth followed by Kyle Stanley finishing for an outright 11th. Long hitting Bubba Watson finished for a joint 12th along with Mathew Jones and Scott
Arnold.
