http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746’s injured left-arm pacer, Nathan Bracken, has finally announced his retirement from the game of cricket. He made this announcement in Sydney.
The 33-year old Aussie was considered as a specialist One Day bowler because of his commendable record in this format of the game.
The lanky bowler had been out of action since 2009, which is when he played his last ODI, against England in Nottingham. After which he suffered a series of knee injuries, keeping him away from taking part in competitive cricket.
Bracken, held his knee injuries responsible for his decision to bid farewell to the game of cricket. “I really have enjoyed my cricket both internationally and domestically, but unfortunately knee injuries have taken their toll", Bracken said.
Bracken reiterated that he had tried his level best to make a comeback, he even tried altering his bowling action to decrease the weight on his knees but all his efforts hit rock bottom.
“I have had a strong rehabilitation from my last operation and have also looked at altering my bowling action to reduce any further damage in my knee and which would have enabled me to continue playing, but it hasn't responded”, the lanky left-arm bowler
said.
The lanky bowler revealed that even after his best efforts it was no longer possible for him to continue his career as a cricketer.
According to reports, he was advised by his doctors to avoid putting too much strain on his knees. This meant that it was no longer possible for the Aussie national to make his comeback in cricket.
“My doctor has advised that I may require further surgery to stabilise my knee and to enable me to have good use of the knee in the future, but to continue playing first-class cricket is now not an option that I have".
Bracken was yet another injury prone bowler, who failed to recover from an injury, which ultimately cost him his career.
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). From 2001 to 2009 he played 116 ODI matches, in which he took 174 wickets at an average of 24.36.
The long-haired bowler also represented Australia in Test cricket by making his debut on 4th December, 2003 against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750. However, the cricketer was picked only five times to represent his country in the longest format of the game.
In 2001 he won the Bradman Young Cricketer of the year award and in 2009, he was named the Australian ODI player of the year.
