Aussie Sarah King all set for next LET season
Australian Sarah King was more than thrilled at the end of the LET (Ladies European Tour) finale in Morocco, as the young gun became one of the lucky players to earn their Tour membership
for the 2013 season.
It could be argued that the ambitious star faced some of the best professionals in Morocco, but she managed to hold her nerve most of the time.
King shot an overall 352 to finish the qualifying event tied for the 20th position on the leaderboard.
Since the players finishing 30th and ties were eligible for the LET membership 2013, King remained calm right from the start of the five-round tournament.
King started the tournament a bit slow as she shot a 71 in the first round. But she soon picked up pace, ramping up pressure on rivals after she posted a 65 in the second round.
The round was awash with amazing strokes. The Aussie star started the round by shooting two back-to-back birdies on the first and second hole. She carded a bogey on the next hole and shot
three straight birdies on the 4th, 5th and 6th hole.
On the back nine, King showed an ever better performance, carding four birdies and no bogey.
Players, both professional and amateur, entered the LET finale with totally different priorities. Professionals wanted to chase maximum points in a bid to stay ahead of the pack, while amateurs
looked to avoid embarrassment.
Despite an intense competition, amateurs did well. Ariya Jutanugarn of Thailand, an amateur, stunned every contender in the roster, as the young star topped the leaderboard.
Jutanugarn registered an overall 336 to grab a five-stroke victory against professional Nikki Campbell. Campbell, who was expected to subdue her rivals, could not jump to the top despite posting
big scores in all five rounds.
Sharmila Nicollet of India did much better, as being a professional she tried not to give too many chances to her rivals. Sharmila has won her LET card for the second year in a row.
The upcoming season will surely be fraught with challenges, with the new LET members eager to carry on in the same way when they come face-to-face against big names.
Every year, Europe and Asian stars travel around the globe in a bid to make a name for themselves. Since Asia has a massive representation on the LET, Europeans are now feeling a bit under
pressure.
Despite growing influence of Asians on the Tour, the 2013 season is set to see some tough battles. Aussie Karrie Webb, who is a well-known LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) contender,
will also be joining the Tour at the Volvik RACV Ladies Masters 2013.
