Aussie Superstar Samantha Stosur all set to defend the US Open title – Tennis News
World number six, Samantha Stosur has set her sights on the accomplishment of the major task at her hands, to defend the US Open title successfully. It is definitely going to be a very tough task for someone who failed to kick-off
the season at high-note and has already slipped one rank below from where she started.
While talking to the media representatives, the Aussie tennis superstar stated, “I'd had a really good tournament leading up to that final and I was full of confidence so I was really excited to have that kind of opportunity against
an opponent like her.” She was talking about her US Open campaign of 2011.
She was the top seed contestant in the Brisbane International tournament but bowed down to the Czech competitor, Iveta Benesova, in the second round. It laid the foundation for a dismal start to the year. She was further disheartened
to see her back at the courts of Sydney in the opening round of the Apia International Sydney.
Another first round exit in the year’s first Grand Slam tournament, the Australian Open, further enhanced her grieves. This time it was the Romanian beauty queen, Sorana Cirstea, who sizzled at the hard courts of Melbourne to portray
her skilful display against the Aussie starlet.
To her glory, she managed to squeeze a couple of wins under her belt during the Federation Cup tie against the Swiss team. She defeated Timea Bacsinszky and Stefanie Voegele in the rubbers round to take her country to a comfortable
win.
She commenced the tour of Doha in a promising fashion by avenging her Australian Open’s loss to Cirstea in the first round. She went on to defeat Monica Niculescu and Marion Bartoli before being dumped by the Belarusian tennis
ace, Victoria Azarenka, who won the final and grabbed the title to clasp her third title on the trot in 2012.
Former world number one, Jelena Jankovic, ousted the Aussie in the quarter-final round of the Dubai Duty Free Championships that ended her tour to UAE. She is looking ahead to Indian Wells to regain her form before her title defence
starts.
She mentioned her aims about US Open in following words, “Because you do it once, it doesn't mean it's going to happen again ... but once you have ticked that box, you have solidified that you can do it.” It seems like she is optimistic
about her performance but her form suggests otherwise.
