Australian Coach, Tim Nielsen, has showed full confidence in the legendary batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ricardo-Gouveia-c84824 Ponting, and rated him as a vital team member.
According to Nielsen, Ponting’s presence in the squad will help him and the Aussies captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758.
The Australian coach has also emphasized that Ponting cannot be left out while considering plans and tactics for the home side.
"The worst thing we could do is not listen to Ricky again because he's not captain or expect him not to do things that could help the team and Michael's very supportive of that." He said.
Meanwhile, Nielsen believes that the former Australian skipper, who recently stepped down from captaincy after the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 World Cup 2011, will support the new captain.
"We haven't had a lot of cricket since he [Ponting] handed over the reins to Michael. It's been beneficial for Punter to have a bit of a break, I'm sure, and think about how he attacks the role. He's an experienced man, he and Michael got on well as captain
and vice-captain in the past so they obviously can work together very closely.” The Kangaroo’s coach added.
Earlier, Ponting, who is known with the title ‘Punter’, himself showed his support for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clarke-c51120, and expressed strong intent to perform his duty, being an experienced batsman of the team.
The former Aussie skipper has stated that he would be ready to bat at any position; where ever Clarke will ask him to.
Punter, who was born in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tasmania-c854, has served his national side in 152 Test matches, scored 12363 runs with an average of 53.51, and smashed 39 hundreds.
Whereas, the right-handed batsman has also participated in 362 One Day International matches for the Aussie side, scoring 13406 runs with an average of 42.69, including 30 centuries.
Coming back to Nielsen’s statement, he termed the Sri Lankan team as a dangerous side on their home grounds.
The Australian team is going to play a 2-fixture Twenty20 series, a 5-match ODI series, and a 3-match Test contest against Sri Lanka.
