Aussie fans campaign for return of spin legend Shane Warne
Following the dismal performance of Australia in the second Test at Adelaide, the dismayed Australian fans have launched a campaign calling for the return of the spin legend Shane Warne for the third Test at Perth to save the Ashes.
Warne who retired four years ago is being asked to return to help save his side from a probable Ashes defeat at home after 23 years.
Australia performed quite disappointingly in the second Test to register the worst possible defeat since the 1980’s. England defeated the Kangaroos by an innings and 71 runs and are now 1-0 up in the 5 match series. Australia will
have to win two Test matches in order to save themselves from a humiliating series defeat against England at home.
Warne however has refused to comment on the possibility of his return for the third Test. A Brisbane cricket fan has created a website which will raise funds to entice the legendary leg spinner Warne, to make himself available
for the remainder of the Ashes series.
"We offer the Rescue Fund to the King of Spin, pleading with him to once again don the Baggy http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Green-c60723 and attempt to win us back the Ashes. Should Warne not accept our offer, all contributions will be refunded,” states the website,
bringbackwarne.com.
The website has raised almost 3000 Australian dollars for the Ashes “Rescue Fund” as it is being called. Warne is currently hosting a television show during the ongoing Ashes series however he steered clear of questions that asked
him if he would be willing to make such a comeback for his team.
Shane Warne before retirement had stated that if his team ever required his services he would consider coming out of retirement to play for them. The Australian team has dropped to its lowest rankings in almost 10 years, ever since
the retirement of Warne, McGrath and Gilchrist. Warne has more than 1000 international wickets in both the formats of the game. His heroics in Adelaide a few years ago are still regarded as one of the best comebacks where he bowled the English team out on
the last day to help http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 win the Test match.
Shane Warne is currently signed with the Indian franchise http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rajasthan-c837 Royals to play in the upcoming Indian Premier League.
