  1. No not really.  After all, they had the talents of Bill Sweetnam (a top swimming coach from Aust) to put their swimmers and coaches on the right track.  Their cyclists were also coached by previous Aussie coaches.  No wonder they did so well in those sports.

  2. No, but I am embarrassed by fellow Australians whose self-esteem is based upon how good our country is at sport.

  3. they don't have a medal tally on BBC until they become third a few days ago..

  4. eah~~~~some pus*ies only good at posh sports, seriously I don't understand why there are so many medals for riding bikes, and pommies can't do anything but riding bikes, bloody h**l

  5. No I am not. BTW, POMs are GB

  6. Why do we need to be so competitive against other countries?

I thought what set us apart from the rest of the world was our easygoing, live-and-let-live attitude, as opposed to the uptight "it's all about me, me, me" attitudes many other nations suffer from.

For my part, I think 'good on them', as the Brits have not always had it good with their sporting achievements, and they must be stoked at these results.

For me, just to know that a country like Australia with its tiny population manages to do as well as we do in every Olympics (particularly in swimming events) is more than enough.

We're a country of 20 million people. Who cares if the USA, Great Britain and China, with their respective populations of 300 million, 60 million, and hello.... 1.5 BILLION, have more medals than us??

So come on, all you Aussies who are wound up about this.... relax, sit back, enjoy our achievements, and the knowledge that we live in the best bloody country on earth!

  7. Not really, becuase they're Great Britain. Which means more countries together and more people.

  8. Pommes will beat Aussies in Ashes too also because your key cricketers like Warne, Mcgrath, Martyn, Langer are gone and it is scheduled in England with Flintoff, Anderson and Harmison too dangerous for Aussies!

so i do think that Pommes will win at medals tally also and may be Ashes also !

    hope it helps!

    god bless!

  9. for those of you who dont know poms a from england.

the term come from the convicts who settled in australia. they believed that the people back in england were the true Prisoners.

    therefore

    poms

    Prisoners of the Motherland.

motherland being england there former home.

  10. No I think good on them they are the better athletes on the day and deserve their place in the medal tally

The Olympics isn't like the cricket or Rugby they are our main rivals in those sports I go for GB or NZ in the games actually I go for everyone who beats the yanks who are our main rivals at the Olympics so we love to beat them.

Then after that we all go back to being Allies again and watching each others backs what a funny old world we live in.

  11. Per Capita they are well BEHIND>>>>

  12. haha i didnt know they were

    but now i am

  13. Doesn't worry me personally - it's about time the Poms didn't completely fail at something. Good on 'em. After failing to qualify for Euro 2008 they were pretty down in the dumps, needed a little moral booster.

The cricket's a given. Every time they lose a game of cricket their captain cracks the s***s and quits.

Apparently there's a 2000 to 1 chance that Harmison will bowl the ball to first slip with the first ball of the Ashes again.

  14. hey aussies, i know yall call the americans yanks but who are the poms

edit. i dont live in australia, never been to australia. i would love to visit there some day. never heard the word poms in my life. i understand where yanks originate from, but poms, what is that short for. and new zealanders are kiwis

  15. A pom is a slang term for a person of English nationality.

Commomly used by Australians (Aussies) and New Zealanders(Kiwi's) usually not meaning offence but just a lazy form of address.

Most of us don't even know how it came about but we all use it, even my dad who came from England.Anyway regards the original question.

I didn't know they were beating us but hey who cares really there's always the Ashes lol.

I agree with previous comments how their competing under Great Britain which is quite a few Countries combined and not just England. Thats really not 1 Country then is it. Good on Ireland for goin it alone.

I just hope which ever Country wins their Sports Minister sticks to the bet of wearing the winners colours and not do a Nudie Run which was suggested  YUCK.

  16. lol! YES!!

My work partner is a Pom. He has been giving me lip about it all week. Makes me laugh.

I hope we get the back at the cricket!!! Mahaha!

  17. i cant believe so many people dont know about poms!

nah good on them. they dominated the cycling, so they deserve a bit of hope, especially with London being the next olympic venue. I was worried about the games being a bit disappointing with GB struggling in 4 years time, but its good to see them holding their own, and should bode well for London 2012.

if you think you will beat the aussies in the ashes though you have got to be dreaming. the mere fact you named Harmison as one of the players that will dominate kinda seals the deal

  18. POMS?

  19. Not really.

I'm much more embarrassed by some Aussies' reactions to it - ie coming up with pathetic excuses and trying to change the topic (eg we have a much smaller population and/or they are only good because they are poaching Aussie coaches/trainers etc) rather than giving credit where it's due.  It really makes us look like sore losers.

The truth is, and everyone knows it, the Poms have done brilliantly and the Aussies have underperformed (by their own lofty expectations).

  20. I've never been able to really get into pom bashing at the Olympics. Great Britain isn't England. I always go for the Scots, Welsh and Irish when they play the poms. LOL

  21. technically they dont count seeing as they compete as great britain...not england which is who we usually are competitive with (eg cricket and rugby) if you want the real tallys of australia vs ENGLAND and not all of britain....just look at the commonwealth games where australia wins by like 50 gold or something.

  22. No I'm not embarrassed. A bit disappointed I guess, but that's the fun of taunting and heckling the English. I'm 10th generation Australian on my English, Irish and Scottish side, so I'll heckle them and hope to show em up all the time. But I would much rather the 'mother' countries to win big at the Olympics if we miss out. I get more annoyed if the yanks we over us, but not because I resent them like some people, just because they act a bit like they think they're so good sometimes. Compared to the rest of the world, the Poms are on our side.
