I'm working on a trip in Oz & interpreting your fuel price quotes is confusing to me (an American). I know you're using the metric system, so you sell in liters, correct?

Here are some price quotes I've found. Do they sound reasonably correct to you?:

Perth - 154.0 what per what?

Sydney - 160.0 what per what?

Kimberley - 185.0 what per what?

-So it's 154.0 what per how much $? Or per liter?

-Is gas actually cheaper in WA? It is closer to the Middle East, so maybe that's it, ay.

-When you're at the gas station, is there a tax in addition to the quoted cost of the gas? (This helps me plan costs)

  1. all prices are per liter

price on sign is what you pay

all tax & other charges are included in the price

  2. Generally, you are looking at $AUD 7-28 per gallon..I just answered this question a minute ago..your exchange rate is good so stock up now on T/Cs..about 96 cents to the US dollar..O yeah,it's per Litre, now about $AUD 1-60 ,and you fill it up yourself,as well as air and water etc..no , all taxes are included..called GST..Goods and Services Tax..just another ruse..they,the Govt. in power at the time gave some tax cuts to the middle classes and they ate it up..Anyway..4.55L=1 Gallon.. you better stock up on fuel and water if you are going to the Kimberleys...Nah..the Govt. here is impotent..they make their prices as they go..although now with a new Govt.,some backwards steps are being addressed. If you are crossing the Nullabor..stock up on everything..trust me..but basically ,it's all good. You'll have a blast! Good Luck!

  3. Those prices are the number of cents per litre i.e. 154.0 is $1.54 per litre. Prices vary from day to day, from city to city and from suburb to suburb within a city. $1.54 is very cheap these days in most states; there must have been some heavy discounting in that particular area. $1.60/$1.70 is fairly normal for Sydney. The cheapest state is Queensland where the state government has a fuel subsidy of 8.354 cents per litre. I paid 153.9 for unleaded yesterday in Brisbane and it was as low as 151.9 earlier in the week (Tuesday is usually the cheapest day).

Australian prices for everything are always quoted including all taxes. It's in fact illegal to quote excluding tax (GST).

    EDIT:

Hey Kit, where did you get the $7.28 per gallon from? There are 3.785 litres to the US gallon. $7.28 works out at $1.92 litre and it's not that high yet thank goodness!
