Aussies: Did you know you can run a diesel vehicle on used cooking oil from the chip shop???!?

In fact, apparently Rudolf Diesel, the inventor of the diesel engine, originally designed it for use with veg oil. He displayed his engine in 1900 running on peanut oil!!

The fella I heard on the radio said he fitted his vehicle with both a diesel tank and a recycled cooking oil tank. The cooking oil needs to be warmed up a little first, so he runs the engine on the diesel first then switches smoothly over to the oil.

He gets his oil for free from the local fish and chip shop!
