What's your opinion of the conduct of the large, Chinese flag-waving, chanting, well-orchestrated crowds of pro-China demonstrators in Canberra, lining the route of the Olympic torch?

According to ABC news reports, they've been harassing pro-Tibet demonstrators whom they greatly outnumber.

Personally I found their nationalistic fervour excessive and somewhat insulting to Australia.

  1. "pro-China demonstrators"? What are they "demonstating" about? They are there to support some pride for their country.

How do you think you will feel if say... when Australia has the Olympics and French demonstators try the same trick as they did in France - grabbing the torch - in protest of Australia's treatment of our indeginous people?

I am NOT for or against anything. But there will always be someone protesting about something. It only seems "disgusting" when it is NOT "our cause".

We didn't seem to protest much when Russia got  the Olympics in 1980, did we? We didn't boycott the games like many other nations did.

We didn't seem to protest that loudly about the treatment of blacks and native Indians when Atlanta got the Olympics, did we?

The Chinese are proud to have the games. Why shouldn't they be allow that joy and pride?

Let NOT use the Olympics as a political tool.

    Cheers

  2. I don't know about (anti tibet). i don't agree with harrassing pro-tibet demonstrators.

BUT I would like to say It is time and I AM GLAD that the Chinese people are finally speaking up FOR WHAT THEY REALLY KNOW about Tibet and for all the misunderstandings china 've been put thru by the over-inflated media coverage world wide and all those hysterical ignorant protestors

Personally, I found there is nothing wrong to speak up for what you know, rather than keeping quiet as always and letting the misinformed naive crowd bombard you when they don't know whats going on except joining the herd and making overexaggerated false accusations.

So this is not " nationalistic fervour " , or propaganda or whatever you call it. This whole riot incident basically grew into a smearing campaign for China of what was originally a great international sporting event to begin with . and I am very very disappointed that you view China's side as "using the olympics for politics" when it was obviously clear which side "used" it. The "smearing campaign" has achieved its results and we can see it to have affected many people's judgements like yours.....

It does not matter if the chinese side is larger or the Tibetan side is smaller in the protest. for..these are irrelevant factors ...what really matters is "Right and Wrong" and also "History".

It is simply the right time that they should "SPEAK UP".

    because *ENOUGH is ENOUGH*....

  3. Majority well behaved.  I think both sides would have been doing a little harassing.
