Aussies blamed for aiming towards hard cash
A top official has recently blamed Australian Golfers for damaging their own home tour.
According to recent reports, the official has charged various Australian golfers with the gaffe that they have become greedy which is aptly apparent with the amount of appearance money they ask for. The statement was made on the
eve of the 8th of November by one of the top leading officials.
Trevor Herden, who is the Golf Australia director of tournaments, has also expressed unease with what the Australian golfers are up to. He said that several top-tier international golfers have been asking for ready money in events
where they are only appearing as young professionals.
Herden said that these professionals are forcing us to request for players who play events without asking for huge sums of amount. The director said that they would want to see players that can support and play without the huge
coins asked for nowadays. He said that these players must realize that it’s difficult enough for the management to gather enough money and funds for the prize money. The winning amount alone must be large enough to attract top players to play in Australia.
The amount of money these players are talking about is like adding a few hundred thousand dollars to the already sky rocketing funds they have to generate. According to Herden, if such a scenario persists, they would have to pull
out of an event that is highly competitive and held in a highly swarming market.
Of course, where there are some players that are greedy, there are some who are still playing on their market value. These types of players are said to mostly appear at the US PGA Tour and according to rumours, Herden acknowledges
these types of players are a great deal. The director says that the players who materialized at the US PGA Tour were getting only the above stated amount and had even greater enticements.
"These golfers will just have to play for free then," he said.
According to the pay checks these golfers receive every tournament they gather more than the dollar amount of 2.5 million every year. As far as the tournament buckets are concerned, they are usually busy tackling banks and interest
rates that are more about the amount of profits they collect.
Considering earlier statements, one can’t forget the fact that these golfers are doing a lot for the Country but the fact of the matter is, when they go out and demand money only to play in their own home, that is wrong.
Herden believes that this act is in a way hurting the entire golfing industry of Australia.
