Aussies only please! Does a rental property need to have a safety switch? I'm in Melbourne?

I looked up on google and it said houses after 1992 have to have on and as of march 2008 rentals do BUT this was the QLD government.

our house was built before 1992. I swear we change at least 3 light globes every week. Our T.v has cause a short curcit. Its driving us mad.

  1. Technically they all should have safety switches installed.It is up to the owner to put these in and not the tenant.The owner can claim it for taxation purposes.


  2. I'm in NSW, and I'm pretty sure that all rental properties in NSW have to have an RCD/ Safety Switch.

    Approach your landlord about having one installed, it will save him/her money in the long run, especially because of the fire risk associated with not having one!

  3. All new homes have to now be fitted with a safety switch,but as far as any old home then NO,it dos'nt..

    I have just had this argument with my owners about it.If i want one in my home i have to pay for it..

    The laws here are wrong,ALL houses should be fitted out with a safety switch.
