with the olympics just passed i was pondering, why was there no aboriginals competing in the javelin event?

i would of thought that they would be naturals at that event, considering there heritage! i can understand them not competing in the discuss, as if they threw it, it would probably come back like a boomerang!

so why do you think that there is no aboriginal competitor's in the javelin?

and what would it take to get an aboriginal competing?.... maybe a couple of roos running around the other end of the field!

  1. Mundoo: Aborigines are NOT under-represented in Aussie Rules.

  2. The olympics isn't all that amateur these days and Aborigines living in the bush (and chasing kangaroos) wouldn't even get a look in for an olympic team selection. All the athletes these days tend to go to sports academies to fine tune their skills.

Aborigines are under represented in all facets of sport in Australia.

  3. Boomerangs and roos? get with it, it's 2008

  4. HAHAHA very funny question from an aussie's perspective. Just because someone is aboriginal does not mean they're automatically pro at javelin. Plus, alot of aboriginal people also live in urban areas now and dont chase kangaroos around with boomerangs and sticks.

  5. Why would an Aborigine waste his energy throwing a javelin, only to have it stick in the ground and not in something to eat?

There IS a target - just don't get in front!

  6. there's no saying that there wasn't any trying out for the olympic team, they just may have not had the training that most non-indigenous aussies can access, especially if they live in the outback as so many do, but you never know, but i'm sure that if they tried out and were good enough, then there wouldn't be any reason for them to not represent australia.

oh and by the way, the discus wouldn't come back as the boomerang is shaped differently and is thrown differently to a discuss. and what in the world are you talking about with kangaroos running on the field to get aboriginals to chase them? do you even live in australia? if you do, do you not watch AFL? there are so many aboriginals in that coz they are so fast, and there's no roo on the field! it's not like they grow up with 'KANGAROO. RUN. CHASE. CATCH. EAT' or whatever, they do have a life, even if it may be different to ours

  7. hahaha nice and witty question.

the answer is try to ask the aboriginals if they would like to compete for the Olympics. good luck if you get to have a good answer from them..

  8. I dunno..........ask Cathy Freeman !
