Question:

Aussies - who else thinks Steve Hooker's gold medal is THE performance of the games for our team?

I'm normally a little cynical about how many gold medals Australia wins on the basis that we tend to accumulate them in niche sports such as swimming and rowing. So as far as I'm concerned Steve Hooker's gold in the pole vault out does anything that Steffi Rice, Libby Trickett and co have managed to achieve. What do people think?

  1. I always judge the wins on how many goosebumps I get and that was well and truly my goosbump moment it was great.

  2. his gold medal is the performance of the games, or he is?

  3. Whilst I understand where you are coming from, I feel that anyone who gets a gold medal is an astounding performance regardless. I do not think that one is more deserving of another. Reason being is that the amount of work required to get there is pretty much the same. They train for 4 years to get to the point where they can even be considered for the team. So yes, to us it is probably unexpected, however, Steve Hooker has been one of the worlds top Pole Volters for the past three years. He is only one of two that have managed the magical 6m mark this year! So whilst it is an awesome feat, he imo, is no more deserving than the swimmers as they have also worked hard!

  4. The Game is not over yet.  We'll get more GOLD, and then decide which the most valuable GOLD is.

  5. steve who ?
