Austen Thompson and Sam Harding blaze in 400m IM super finals - Arizona Invitational
Day three of the Arizona Invitational Swimming Championships was dominated by Austen Thompson of Tucson Ford and Sam Harding of Wild West, who claimed two major titles in the Men’s and Women’s 400m Individual Medley super finals held at Tempe, Arizona, on May 29.
The Men’s 400m IM super final was won by Austen Thompson with a sterling time of 4 minutes and 38.92 seconds. Taylor Charles clinched the silver medal with a time of 4 minutes and 39.74 seconds, while Sam Rowan of Tucson Ford snared the bronze medal in a time of 4 minutes and 43.60 seconds.
Sam Harding of Wild West edged Lindsay Seeman of Tucson Ford in the Women’s 400m IM super final event, with a winning time of 5 minutes and 04.77 seconds.
Seeman secured the silver medal with a time of 5 minutes and 07.81 seconds, whereas, Mitchell Chintanaphol of Nashville nabbed bronze in time of 5 minutes and 08.22 seconds in the respective race.
The next event were the Men’s and Women’s 100m butterfly super finals, where Maclin Davis of Nashville and Leticia Lelli of Sun Devil earned the first place honours, respectively. Davis completed his distance in 54.89 seconds, while Lellis finished in 1 minute and 02.71 seconds, ensuring their gold medals.
Masayuki Kishida secured the second spot in 55.87 seconds, while Kevin Munsch wound up third in a time of 57.54 seconds in the Men’s 100m butterfly super final.
Alyssa Anderson of Tucson Ford was placed second in 1 minute and 04.17 seconds, while Bri Jurries of GMSC rounded out the top three in 1 minute and 04.27 seconds in the Women’s 100m butterfly super final.
In the Women’s and Men’s 400m medley relays category, swimmers of Sun Devil took the golden crowns in both the events, after their astonishing performances.
In an intriguing and neck-to-neck battle, Lelli, Rebecca Ejdervik, Lauren Torres, and Tinsley Andrews of the Sun Devil team clinched the gold medal in the Women’s 400m medley relays super final, with a winning time of 4 minutes and 28.47 seconds.
On the other hand, the Men’s 400m medley relays crown was snatched by Alex Brouwer, Andrew Marciniak, Ryan Dignan, and Ben Brouwer of Sun Devil with a sterling time of 4 minutes and 13.66 seconds.
