Austin Carter ready for another challenge at the Blue Water Junior Golf Association Tournament of Champions
With five victories added to his name this year, Austin Carter is once again ready to outshine his opponents at this week’s Blue Water Junior Golf Association Tournament of Champions at Scalawags in Chesterfield.
A total of 56 invitations were sent to the top players in the division who are all expected to appear at the venue. According to the qualification criteria, one must have played a BWJGA tournament before in order to get an invitation to play this week’s
event.
Carter, who plays in a division of 16 to 18 year old players, anticipates the winning score to be around the par mark. He stated that the course conditions look really tough and it will be really difficult for the players to break the par.
“There haven’t been many big margins of victory this year, and that’s been surprising,” Carter said. “It’s definitely going to be a close finish. I have a feeling it’s going to be right around par. Par is probably going to be a winning score”.
He stated that he was expecting a good competition from his high school rivals, Yale’s Joe Falk and George Cornwell. Yet, he believes that he has the ability to take his opponents down as he did in the past.
His game off the tee has been great right from the start of the season and he is expected to be the leading player at the end of the series of the BWJGA tournaments.
Wendy Palmateer of Golf Country is also expecting a good competition to be offered to the local golf fans and the students.
“The kids are pretty competitive, which is nice,” Palmateer said.
She told that a total of 10 tournaments were held this summer and Carter won five of them. Moreover, he missed an opportunity of increasing his feat to six after rain washed out his home event at Lakeview Hills. The event was scheduled to be held on July
26, 2012.
“Unfortunately, there’s not much you can do about that,” she said. “In general, (the season) definitely moved quite smoothly. We were very pleased with the scores of the kids and how well they’re improving”.
