Austin Dillon aiming to make his Sprint Cup debut at Kansas – NASCAR news
Austin Dillon will be looking to make his first appearance in the NASCAR Sprint Cup in the Hollywood Casino 400 at the Kansas Speedway on Sunday, October 9, 2011.
Dillon, who is the grandson of Richard Childress Racing owner Richard Childress, currently leads the Camping World Truck Series by 3 points and with the Truck Series taking a break this weekend, it is the ideal time for him to try his hand at the Sprint
Cup. Dillon has made some eye-catching performances in the last two seasons and will now be looking to leave an impression on the Sprint Cup.
Dillon still needs to qualify for the race though, since he does not have any points. If he qualifies, Dillon will be driving the No. 98 Curb Agajanian sponsored by The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation’s Centennial Celebration.
“I’m looking forward to it,” Dillon said. “I’ve had a good couple of weeks in the truck series leading up to it so my confidence is kind of up here. Our goal is to run all the laps and hopefully run in the top 25 but first we have to qualify since I don’t
have any points.”
Dillon will be bringing along his truck team with him and is hoping that it will be a good experience for all of them. Danny Stockman, crew chief of Dillon’s truck team, will be heading his cup crew as well.
“Pretty much everyone on the truck team will be there along with some of the guys from the Cup shop to help us get through tech because those guys don‘t do it every weekend,” Dillon said.
Dillon is not looking for a permanent spot however. He is set to drive in the Nationwide Series from next season with little brother Ty Dillon to take over his place in the Truck Series.
It is likely that Austin will be running the fourth car for RCR if and when the team fields a fourth car again. RCR have not announced any deal for their fourth car after Clint Bowyer leaves the team and it is likely that they will field 3 cars next season.
