Austin Dillon leads practice sessions at Kentucky 225 in Camping World Truck Series – NASCAR news
Austin Dillon led both practice sessions in a dominating performance at the Kentucky 225 and will have James Buescher and Johnny Sauter sweating over their championship chances in the Camping World Truck Series on Friday, September 30, 2011.
Dillon finished with a best time of 30.269 seconds in the second practice session, with Nelson Piquet Jr. joining him in 2nd.
Ron Hornaday Jr. was ranked 7th in the first practice session but improved his time to make it to 3rd place. A good qualifying session may put Hornaday back into the reckoning for the Truck Series Championship.
He was followed by Matt Crafton who finished 12th in the first practice and jumped up to 4th place in the second.
Austin’s teammate Joey Coulter was fifth fastest in both the practice sessions. Brian Ickler and Cole Whitt improved from 13th and 14th in the first practice sessions, ranking 6th and
7threspectively in the second session.
Championship contenders Johnny Sauter and James Buescher were lying in 8th and 9th places respectively. Johnny Sauter was actually 4th in the first qualifying session but could not improve on
his performance in the second session. Buescher was 8th in the first practice session.
Ty Dillon, making his first appearance in a NASCAR series, was ranked 16th in the first session and improved in the second session to post an impressive 10th place. Ty will be happy with his performance
and looking to set similar times in the qualifying session on Saturday.
Timothy Peters, who also stands an outside chance for the Truck Series Championship, will be disappointed with a 16th place and will be looking to improve drastically for the qualifying session.
Buescher is currently two points behind Dillon and Sauter is a further five points behind. Both drivers will realize that they will need a better run in qualifying to challenge Austin’s lead in the series.
The qualifying sessions are in reverse order, with Austin Dillon to be the last driver to run his qualifying lap.
The qualifying for the Kentucky 225 will start at 4:15pm Eastern Time (ET) while the main race is scheduled to start at 8:00pm (ET) on Saturday.
