Austin Ernst to play Kraft Nabisco Championships
LSU’s Austin Ernst has reportedly been invited to participate in the much-hyped Karft Nabisco Championship after she received an amateur exemption from the event’s officials.
Ernst’s school informed that the young prodigy is already gearing up to play the first major of the current season, making the most of the facility given by LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Tour.
Kraft Nabisco Championship is played on the LPGA Tour, featuring leading players from across the world.
The event is scheduled to start from March 26 to April 1, at the famous Mission Hills Country Club. Ernst is one of the five lucky contenders who have been given the sought-after exemption.
Born in Greenville, SC, Ernst proved her mettle in a number of tournaments. One event that put her in the limelight was the NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championship played at The Traditions Club in Bryan, Texas.
The 20-year-old sophomore was impressive throughout the event at Bryan, displaying her best form ever.
She carded a decent 72 in the first round. The second round saw the young star shoot her best 66.
She looked fired in the last round too, as she scored a 66 again. She inflicted a 3-stroke defeat over her nearest rival, highlighting that she can face tough competition.
In addition to her amazing form at Bryan, Texas, she also won the title at Central District Invitational. She made a whopping 3-under 213, grabbing LPGA officials’ attention.
Before putting her golfing skills to test in LSU, Ernst had been a successful player. She grabbed the headlines in 2007 and 2009 when she racked two titles at AJGA Rolex Junior All-American. The victories proved a game-changer for her.
Forging ahead with consistency and resilience, Ernst added a few more victories to her profile. In 2010, she stunned her fans yet again, as she beat her competitors in the Vicki DiSantis Junior Girls' Championships.
She also recorded a 4 & 3 triumph in the Carolina Women’s Match Play.
Keeping in mind Ernst’s victories in the 2010-11 freshman season, Kraft Nabisco Championship can ensure a promising start for the young star on the LPGA Tour.
The 2011 tournament was won by American Stacy Lewis. The current world number one Yani Tseng, who was best in the 2010 event, will also be trying to prove her worth this year.
