Austin Jackson helps Detroit Tigers rout Toronto Blue Jays 3-2 – MLB Update
Detroit Tigers continued to impress the critics as they edged the Toronto Blue Jays 3-2 at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan on Thursday, August 23 in the finale of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
The score-line on Thursday was exactly the same as it was in Game 2. Edwin Encarnacion gave the Blue Jays an excellent start as he homered to left in the fourth inning to break the deadlock and put his side 2-0 ahead.
However, the Blue Jays were unable to take advantage of the situation and the Tigers bounced back fiercely to register another emphatic win, completing a well deserved series sweep.
Austin Jackson once again showed how dangerous he can be as he drove in important runs to help the Tigers snatch a comeback from behind victory.
"It was one of those situations where if that ball drops, he's probably going to score. I knew in that situation I probably had to attempt to dive," Jackson said. "I knew it was going to be close."
"I haven't dove too many times. I probably could count on one hand," the speedy Jackson said in a post game interview. "I knew I had to get on my horses a little bit."
After Toronto took an early 2-0 lead, Brennan Boesch earned an RBI single to centre in the eighth to keep the Tigers in the hunt. Austin Jackson scored on a wild pitch to level the score as the match entered a very exciting phase.
Detroit used its home conditions to great effect and Alex Avila delivered the go ahead run in the extra inning to wrap up an impressive victory.
Credit should be given to the Manager Jim Leyland for keeping the Tigers focused after they had a poor first half of the season. With their win, Leyland and company also closed the gap between themselves and Chicago White Sox to just one game.
It will be interesting to see if the Tigers can continue their excellent run over the next few weeks to win their second straight American League Central Division title.
