Austin Jackson prepares for 2012 season – MLB News
As Detroit Tigers prepare for their 2012 season campaign, Lloyd McClendon worked on Austin Jackson’s swing technique and stance. Jackson displayed some high quality hitting skills the past season. He was named the American League player of the week in first
week of September.
Batting win an astonishing .529 average with two home runs, three doubles and three triples, he scored thirteen runs during that week. In addition to his great batting skills, the right handed striker has a rock solid defence as well, which makes him one
of the leading prospects in the baseball world right now.
Jackson is still very new to Major League Baseball. Making his debut with Tigers in 2009, he has improved his game play significantly since then. The Centre Fielder is training hard ahead of 2012 season and he will be looking to make the most of his available
opportunities to make a name for himself.
In an interview with the leading sports website, coach McClendon said that he is working with Jackson to reduce his leg kick in the swing. The AL Central title holders, the Tigers will be relying heavily on Jackson since they don’t have any strong alternatives.
Jackson, on the other hand, will be looking to cut down his strikeouts and raise his batting average to secure a permanent place in Tigers’ batting line-up.
"My hope is that we're going to see some drastic differences. Without revealing too much, there are going to be some physical differences you see," McClendon said. "But the most important thing about what we're doing is the ability to repeat the swing and
over and over and over again."
He explained, "Sometimes in order to make changes there has to be a struggle and a willingness on the part of the participant to do it. So I would have been fighting an uphill battle after the first year if I had said, 'We need to change.' "
McClendon further added that Jackson is learning quickly and he has already adjusted to the new hitting technique. He should be given credit for the hard work he has put in over the last few weeks. The fans will see some real differences in his approach
and style next season.
