Austin Krajicek nails Brayden Schnur to reach third qualifying round - Rimouski Challenger 2012
American professional, Austin Krajicek, trashed the 16-years-old Canadian starlet, Brayden Schnur, in the second qualifying clash of the Rimouski Challenger. He eased past the teen in straight sets 6-4, 6-3.
The match started in an emphatic fashion for both players, with the final glory falling in the bag of the Amerrican veteran. Krajicek tested his opponent to his limits in the opening game and finally broke serve after wasting two
opportunities to break serve.
It was the critical point of the set as there were no more breakthroughs witnessed in the following games. The American player was smart enough to slow the tempo of the match and frustrate his competitor. He played uncountable
drop shots that always broke the momentum of the Canadian.
In the fast thumping cross-court and down the line returns category, the teenager was definitely superior to his opponent but he couldn’t tackle the slop paced drop shots. Schnur was very close on a couple of occasions in the set
to win the break back and level the scores but was halted by his rival who was equipped to tackle the pressure situations with ease.
The second set was also very close and the Canadian player kept on questioning the American with his cracking returns. He was playing well and tackling the drop shots better than the first set but that wasn’t enough to stop his
rival from holding on to his serves.
A brilliant change of momentum from the American took the teen with surprise. He started playing thumping cross-court winners and won a breakthrough that was coupled with another breathtaking in the ninth game. It was the end of
the match but the youngster was given a big round of applause for his enthusiastic fight throughout the clash.
Krajicek marches on in the third qualifying round of the tournament and accompanies the likes of Luka Gregorc, Devin Britton, Haydn Lewis, Michael McClune, Jaan-Frederik Brunken, Nikita Kryvonos and Clement Reix. All these players
won their second qualifying round matches in straight sets except Kryvonos who was forced to finish off the match in three-sets after failing to grab the second set victory.
