Austin Rivers and Xavier Henry undergo surgeries – NBA Update
New Orleans Hornets guards Austin Rivers and Xavier Henry have gone through surgeries and are expected to be fully fit for training camp prior to the start of next season.
According to general manager Dell Demps, both Xavier and Rivers have gone through surgeries in order to recover from off-season injures. Rivers has had surgery to remove bone spurs from his right ankle.
“Austin had a bone spur in his ankle,” Demps said, “and the surgery went well today. I’ve been in communication with the doctor who did the surgery, and we expect him to be back in time for training camp. We’re not going to rush
him back, but we do expect he’ll be ready to play when training camp opens.”
The surgical procedure was performed in Boston by Dr. Brian McKeon.
Rivers had been part of the successful draft night for the Hornets, who selected him with their 10 overall pick – a selection thrown their way as part of the Chris Paul trade. The young rookie, who had a lifelong dream to play
in the NBA, is expected to be successful prospect alongside fellow rookie and number one pick Anthony Davis.
The young guard out of Duke is known for his explosiveness and long range exploits from his time in college. However he has not been able to show much of his talents while representing the Hornets in the Summer League.
Davis averaged 10 points and 3.5 assists in the first two games, but missed out the last three as a result of lower leg soreness.
On the other hand, Xavier has undergone arthroscopic surgery to repair a meniscus tear in his right knee.  The surgical procedure on Xavier was performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache in Los Angeles. He is also expected to be clear of
the damage and can be fit for camp prior to next season.
“He, too, we expect to be back in time for camp,” Demps said.
The Hornets would want both the guards fit at the start of training camp in September as they open up a season of hope, with a renewed and potent roster. Their first outing will be against the Western Conference powerhouses, the
San Antonio Spurs.
