Austin Rivers feels he has made great progress since the ankle surgery – NBA Update
The New Orleans Hornets have high hopes from their rookie point guard Austin Rivers as they look forward to their re-building process. Rivers was acquired as the 10th overall pick overall pick on June 28th,
and the young guard is billed to be a great aspect for the organization’s future.
Rivers himself is not shying away from those expectations and feels that he has made great progress since going through ankle surgery during the summer. He is presently taking part in NBA’s rookie’s transitional program and took
time to open up on his surgery and what he plans to achieve in the coming season.
“I’m doing great actually now, so I’ll be back very soon. It’s got a lot better and I actually got even stronger than I think I was before I got hurt.” He said.
“I feel I have got more comfortable after each stage. But I won’t feel totally comfortable until after I play my first regular-season game”
“I’ll get more comfortable and confident in training camp. It’s really going to come down to those first week of games before you realize what you need to do and then try to come out full blast from there whether you play good
or not.”
Austin, who is the son of Boston Celtics head coach Doc Rivers, failed to impress in the summer camps, but is now rearing to prove his worth. The timely recovery from the surgery will only help in doing that and this is a very
good prospect for the Big Easy franchise. Ever since the departure of their All-Star swingman Chris Paul and David West in the last off season, the Hornets have been in a recovery stage.
They got a new owner earlier this year and fate has been on their side so far as they secured the first overall pick in this year’s draft, one which they used to select last season’s NCAA player of the year, Anthony Davis.
Their draft expectations were uplifted as with the 10th pick they got their hands on Rivers – a great talent out of Duke who can be a key to their plans for the future with the likes of Davis and Eric Gordon.
