Austin Rivers hoping to play under his father at Boston Celtics – NBA Update
After bidding farewell to the Duke Blue Devils, Austin Rivers, son of Boston Celtics coach Doc Rivers, is now headed towards the NBA draft. The 2011 Naismith Prep Player of the Year is anticipated to be the 1st round
pick in June’s NBA draft and can be a lottery pick as well. However, he still wants to somehow play for the Eastern Conference giants;
“If that was to happen, I would love to play for any organization in the NBA. That's my dream. It would be great. It would be different. It would be an interesting aspect just to play for my dad."
The 19 year old freshman guard was the reason behind Winter Park High School’s 6A state championships in 2010 and 2011. He had a great run with Blue Devils as he averaged 15.5 points per game and was nominated as the Atlantic Coast
Conference rookie of the year.
"Duke has prepared me for the challenges that are ahead both on and off the court," Rivers said in a statement issued by the school last Monday. "I have learned so much from the coaching staff and my teammates that will help me
succeed at the next level."
After Luol Deng, Kyrie Irving and Corey Maggette, Rivers is the 4th player who jumped into the mainstream professional basketball after playing a season under Coach Mike Krzyzewski.
However the former No.1 recruit in the country might not rapport with his own father and he might face problems while subjugating to Doc Rivers’ leadership. Austin differed with this notion and evaded the sensitivity of question
quiet maturely.
"If I'm messing up, I want him to be hard on me. If I'm doing good, I want him to pat me on the back. That's the way he coaches”
His yesteryears performance makes him irresistible for the struggling teams, especially who are willing to add strength and youth to their offense by the end of season. There is no doubt that he will be recommended by many talent
scouts from different franchises.
We can’t forget the fact that he can be a lottery pick, which will evidently make him out of C’s reach as they will not be entitled to this privilege. But for now he can dream on about playing for his father as the suspense will
entail till the end of this season.
