Austin Trout: It was an honour to fight Miguel Cotto – Boxing News
After defeating former welterweight titlist Miguel Cotto, Austin ‘No Doubt’ Trout was overwhelmed with excitement but he did not forget to pay respect to the fallen opponent. According to Trout, it was an honour for him to fight against a great fighter like
Miguel Cotto. Trout also asserted that it was his chance to score big against Cotto and he did it.
“Miguel Cotto is a great champion,” said Trout during the post-fight press conference.
“He’s a great fighter and it was an honor to be in the same ring as him. It’s even more of an honor to be the man to beat him. To have my hand raised against a kingpin like Miguel Cotto is a dream come true. Those shots that Cotto hit me with were strong
and I knew he’d be strong, but it reconfirmed that I could take those shots. It was definitely the hardest fight of my career and when you fight someone as big as Miguel Cotto, it motivated me,” he added.
On the other hand, the Puerto Rican fighter was not quite pleased with the decision. Cotto had given everything he had in the ring, expecting a grand victory against Trout but he was wrong. Judges saw Trout being the better fighter and gave him a 12-round
unanimous decision. Unfortunately, Cotto’s hope of re-establishing himself as an elite fighter were shattered. It was the second consecutive loss f his career following a unanimous decision loss to American unbeaten fighter Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Cotto asserted that he was quite pleased with the way he fought and that he will go back to his country and think what went wrong. According to Cotto, Austin Trout was good and he came at him with both hands, which made the fight even more thrilling.
For now, Trout has escalated to 26 wins with 0 losses while Cotto just got another defeat to his portfolio. However, the Puerto Rican made it a point to assert that he is not over yet and that he still has boxing in his head.
Trout maintained his unbeaten streak and remained the champion after defeating the Puerto Rican great.
