Austin Trout talks about his training camp for fight against Miguel Cotto – Boxing News
Austin Trout is excited to face four-time and three-division world champion Miguel Cotto at Madison Square on December 1. Trout will be defending his WBA super welterweight title against Cotto, with the aim of ending the Puerto Rican legend’s dominance in
the ring for good.
This would be Trout’s first ever fight against a top notch fighter like Cotto, and the American is sure-footed that he would defeat the former welterweight titlist. Trout currently stands with 25 wins, 0 losses and 14 knockouts in his portfolio. Compared
to Cotto, he is quite an inexperienced fighter who needs to prepare good enough to face a legend like Cotto.
However, according to Trout, he has not changed much in his training camp except for the intensity, which he has increased.
“I haven’t changed anything; it’s just a more intense camp,” said Trout. “I’m expecting a hard 12 rounds in an intense fight. Cardio is very important because I’ve never known him to show up unprepared. He’s still a very hungry fighter and I’m flattered
he chose me as his opponent. That shows how hungry he still is, so I’m upping everything that I normally do. We had to acclimate to the high altitude, but now we’re continuing to work harder than ever.”
Miguel Cotto is coming off a loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr. whereas Trout is coming off a win.
Trout believes his jab is strong enough to create trouble for Cotto. However, he does admit that Cotto is a true warrior who comes to fight with explosion. Trout asserted that he has seen fighters like Cotto before and he knows well what to do when he meets
the Puerto Rican.
It should be noted here that for Cotto, Trout is probably an easy, since he is an unknown fighter. There were rumours of the Puerto Rican facing Filipino fight sensation Manny Pacquiao for the second time but the deal could not be struck. Now, Cotto will
be fighting Trout, a fight will does not have a lot of benefits for him. A loss could mean an upset for Cotto but a win would not matter much.
