Austin Trout to defend WBA World light middleweight title against Delvin Rodriguez – Boxing news
Austin Trout, the current WBA World light middleweight champion, is scheduled to defend his title for the third consecutive time against Dominican proud Delvin Rodriguez, the International Boxing Association Intercontinental light middleweight champion,
in a 12-round bout which will be held on June 2, 2012.
Delvin and Austin will co-headline the Saturday night pay-per-view which is being promoted by Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy Promotions. The night will also witness Antonio Tarver defend his International Boxing Organization cruiserweight title against Lateef
Kayode while constituting the headline bout.
The show will be televised live on Showtime’s weekly boxing show ‘Showtime Championship Boxing’ and the ring for the much anticipated fight card will be set up at Home Depot Center in Carson, California, United States.
Delvin, the challenger, the man who resides at World Boxing Organisation’s eighth rank just after Austin, is eyeballing his opponent seriously and is planning to not only snatch the gold from Trout but to also gift the American lad his career’s first ever
loss.
During a recent media interaction, Rodriguez commented that Austin will come with full force as he is well aware of the fact that he will be facing most probably the toughest opponent of his career.
Moreover, the 32-year-old Dominic Delvin remarked that he has undergone strenuous sparring sessions with Sechew Powell which has aided him a lot in revamping his technical skills and brawling abilities.
Delvin while sharing his thoughts about sparring with Sechew commented, “It was a great set up. I think it’s great because he has a very important fight himself. I know he is working very hard. He gave me great work. He needed the work as much as I needed
it so we both helped each other out.”
When asked as to how he feels about Austin and his mindset for the bout, Delvin simply stated, “I think he knows he is facing his hardest opponent ever in his career so far. And this is something I have been working on my all my life to get this opportunity.
We both have to leave it all in the ring.”
Delvin has been in a total 34 bouts and boasts 26 wins with 14 coming via knockout. The orthodox pugilist recently nailed heavily experienced Pawel Wolak to grab the vacant IBA intercontinental light middleweight title.
Austin, on the other hand, boasts an undefeated streak in a total 24 professional bouts. Also known as ‘No Doubt’, the southpaw Trout grabbed his WBA title after pinning Rigoberto Alvarez via unanimous decision and since then has defended it twice against
David Lopez and Frank LoPorto.
The odds are 50-50 on both sides as the duo possesses considerable statistical and somewhat technical upper hand over each other.
