  1. In my experience Aussies are nicer.  Aussies are also not as yappy as Shelties tend to be.

Both can be good family pets, but you need to realize that to be a good family pet, they will need a lot of outlet for their energy levels.  Are you ready to fulfill the need of a high energy dog?

Shelties are about 1/2 the size of an Aussie.

  2. australian shepherd or even better, GERMAN SHEPHERD!

  3. Energetic is very good, but you should consider that these are both working dogs.  They require  both mental and physical stimulation, every day.  Probably at least two hours'  running or vigorous play per day.  Otherwise, they tend to become boisterous and/or destructive.  Also to misbehave.

They are both good dogs,, though, and roughly the same size, really.

  4. Shelties are slightly larger than Aussies. Have you considered a border collie?

  5. Me I`m partial to Australian Shepard's having 3 of them.

A Red Merle. a Red Tri and my newest addition a Blue Merle.

I trial in Obedience, Agility, and Show and have only had 1 other breed that I found as faithful and that was Flat coated Retrievers.

    Good luck and God bless

  6. I dont know which one is nicer but I like bigger dogs so I would go with the shepherd.

  7. I own two aussies so I am biased.  I have a friend that has had shelties.  The shelties tend to be more high strung, have a high pitched bark and do rings around the furniture when excited.  Prancing around and around.  I have had 4 aussies over time and have found them to be great family dogs, energetic or couch potato waiting on you to play.  Over all a great dog, blends with what ever is going on.  My one is actually a mini aussie, aka north american shephard.  They get up to 40 pounds, my other is not a mini and she is 45 to 48 pounds.  You cannot go wrong with these dogs.  Please investigate into Aussie Rescue online if you are considering this dog.  They give you all the traits of them and then there are many great dogs available as well as puppies.  Good luck.
