My husband was afford a job in Australia. Well his company he works for now (drilling company) offered him the job to work there for a couple years with a VERY good pay raise. They are getting a very good deal over in Australia to do this job. They are still in the process of deciding if they want the job there but if they do take it me and my husband have first class tickets to move there. They would be buying us a house and paying for EVERYTHING. So they say. All we would have to pay for is our own food. Which is fine with me. I was all for it but then started to think that what if this VERY good pay raise was only that much cuz thats how much it is going to take to be able to afford to live there???? Please any help on this if you know anything about living in australia.

  1. the cost of living in australia is very similar to the cost of living in germany, however australians are paid in australian dollars while germans are paid in euros which are worth more.

  2. The closer to the cities the more expensive the cost of living. If all you have to worry about is buying your own food and paying for your own utilities you should be financially better off than most.

  3. it depends on where you want to live in Australia.

cost of living in Melbourne, Sydney.. cities like that are kinda high

  4. Like the people above me have said, it depends totally on where he gets stationed, some cities are more expensive, if you are put somewhere near the city and also close to the beach that is overall the best place as you will get fresher food to choose from although it will be expensive, where I am in brisbane is the southeast, close to the water and half an hour from the city, we probably have the cheapest rent in my area (which is mainly full of expensive houses) and we pay $330 a fortnight but where I am the usual is about $450 and that's for a 4 bedroom house, also if you want to save on groceries buy from a local farm - there stuff is always fresh and you know you can rely on them, that and there usually dirt cheap compaired to places like woolworth, coles, bi-lo, aldi and you know when they were picked
