Australia has named their 14 man squad for Bangladesh's 3 match ODI tour to take place on 30th August, & 3rd & 6th of Sept.Because his wrist is still not sufficiently healed, Ponting has not been selected. This is the team;

Michael Clarke, (C)

Mike Hussey (VC)

Nathan Bracken

Stuart Clark

Brad Haddin

Matthew Hayden(subject to fitness test)

James Hopes

David Hussey

Mitchell Johnson

Brett Lee

Shaun Marsh

Andrew Symonds

Shane Watson

Cameron White.

What are your thoughts on the selection?

  1. Is it a great challenge that Australia should consider putting their very best players against Bangladesh ? They should have used this occasion to put forward their next rung players. They need to quickly find an excellent spinner for test matches and they should have used this opportunity to hone the skills of spinners, though this is a different format. Ponting is not there and it is good. Hayden should not be there because he doesn't have to prove anything. I feel that Symonds and Lee should not have been selected too. Instead, they should have taken Luke Ronchi, Brad Hodge and Ashley Noffke. This is 'overkill'.

  2. perfect one

  3. First of all, what a pointless tour.

The scheduling makes no sense, first of all, isnt it still winter in Australia?

Second of all, how will playing on fast bouncy seaming wickets in Australia help prepare both teams for a Champions Trophy held in Pakistan which has slow lifeless wickets?

Anyway it looks like Australia are playing a full strength side.

I am suprised Hayden is being rushed back into the side to play these unnecessary ODI's. Imagine if Hayden re-injures himself in these ODI's, and imagine if that injury made him miss the series in India later on this year.

I wonder who will miss out if Hayden comes back into the side, if my memory serves me correct i remember that it was Marsh and Watson who opened in the West Indies. It will be shame for either player to be dropped because they both did decent in the West Indies.

Ponting missing out means Clarke gets further experience captaining Australia, which can only be good for his development.

Whatever side is picked should beat Bangladesh comfortably.

Maybe Australia should play there "Best" side just once, and then gives some fringe players a trial in the next 2 games.

I dont understand why bit-part players like Hopes and White are in the squad, i'm sure Australia have better batsmen than Hopes waiting in the wings, and arguarbly Michael Clarke is as good of a spinner as Cameron White (plus David Hussey can always chip in).

David Hussey should definitely play he is world class.

I still dont see the point of playing these ODI's though lol

EDIT- Lol wow i wish i lived in Darwin :)

Yeah but still there's no point in even thinking about Hayden for these pointless ODI's. Australia should just give Hayden a few more days rest, and not let him worry about getting fit in time.

  4. looks  like, threatening team for any other team

    congrats in advance

  5. sorry, still not good enough a team for bangladesh~

    No offence

  6. I would've thought that they would want to rest more of their players. This is just like their full strenght squad. Maybe they'll rest a few of thier players during the series and give the younger guys a go.

  7. To the answerer above me, They have selected 14 with the option to add a 15th, according to the Sydney Daily Telegraph. Maybe those top players wont get the nod, but on the other hand they've had a long lay off & it would be good practice for the coming summer.

  8. I am pleased to see a good representation of our W.A. players there Jake. It will be a one-way affair no doubt, as Australia are much stronger then Bangladesh, but it will be a helpful experience for the Bangladesh side.

  9. Wow! talk about overkill! I recon the Nar Nar Goon third XI could win against the Bangladeshis.

I hope Hados is not silly enough to put his hand up.

Oh, and btw, kookee, it is around 30C in Darwin at moment! It hovers between 28-35 all year round. But you do not really want to live up there, the humidity would kill ya! (if the locals don't!!). They have 25" crocks up there!
