Australia's Michael Hussey eying comeback as Doug Bollinger’s replacement in World Cup 2011 squad
Star Australian batsman Michael Hussey is eying a surprise comeback to the national team, following the ankle injury to fast bowler Doug Bollinger. However, the selectors haven’t taken any final decision yet. They have decided to wait for a couple of more
matches before announcing Bollinger’s replacement.
On his team’s performance in the ICC World Cup 2011 until now, Hussey said, “The squad looks like it's going really well at the moment, the fast bowlers are fit and the boys have been playing really well.”
The veteran cricketer also appreciated the selectors’ decision of not announcing Bollinger’s replacement in haste. However, he admitted that he had been given any indication whether he would be considered for the team or not.
Hussey was expected to be one of the key performers for Australia in the 2011 World Cup. However, the star player sustained a hamstring injury during the One Day International (ODI) series against England.
The 35-year-old had to undergo surgery, and his chances of participating in the mega event were subject to his recovery. However, the selectors were left with no choice and they had to drop Hussey from the final 15-member squad, as he wasn’t fit to represent
his team in the mega tournament.
This World Cup may have been the last one for Hussey, but the stylish middle-order batsman has no intentions of retiring from international cricket in the near future. He stated, “I love playing for Australia and it took me so long just to get one game,
I don't want to stop anytime soon.”
Hussey will return to competitive cricket for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Queensland-c834. He will be looking forward to impressing the selectors with his form and fitness.
Even though the veteran is not getting any younger with time, he claimed that he was getting better every day in terms of his form and confidence.
Hussey’s presence in the team will definitely boost Australia’s chances of lifting their fourth consecutive World Cup. He has proved to be one of the best performers for his team in his illustrious career, and will be a threat to opponents if he makes it
to the World Cup.
However, there is also a window of opportunity for some other fast bowlers like Peter Siddle and Dirk Nannes to make it to their first ever World Cup.
