Australia-A defeat USA Men’s national hockey team 6-0 in final match of series in California
The Australian-A hockey team has scored yet another victory over the US National Men’s hockey team as they whipped the hosts 6-0 in the final match of the four match test series played at Moorpark in California on Wednesday, September 21 to win the series
3-1.
In the previous three matches of the series, USA Men defeated the Australians 2-1 in the opening game while the Australians clinched the victory in the next two matches 7-2 and 5-2 respectively.
The match was quite an exciting game where the Australian athletes dominated their opponents throughout the entire seventy minutes of play, particularly in the second half where they seemed at their best. The Australians scored four goals in the second part
of the game while they made a double strike in the first thirty five minutes whereas the Americans could not score even a single goal in the entire course of action.
The Australians started the first half aggressively as they started to create their chances from the beginning of the play and broke the deadlock just ten minutes into the first half when Dan Hotchkis scored the opening goal of the match in the 10th
minute. The Australians continued their game with the similar pace as they made a number of circle penetrations in to the US circle.
However, they had to wait until the 25th minute to double their lead and this time it was Tom Wickham who scored a beautiful field goal. The remaining time of the first half did not see any action as both teams went on break with Australia a leading
the game by one goal to nil.
The second half was an improved performance by the Australians as they made a double blow in the opening ten minutes with Joshua Miller scoring both goals. Miller scored the third Australian goal with an individual effort in the 39th minute followed
by another brilliant field strike, his second, in the 45th minute.
The Americans proved no match for the Australians as they did not stop their attacks at that point instead they consistently pressed the USA defence and scored two more goals in the remaining time. The Australians scored their fifth goal in the 50th
minute when they were awarded a penalty corner and Craig Boyne, the skipper, easily converted it into the goal. They scored their final goal of the match in the 64th minute with Tom Wickham once again found the US net.
The Australians put in a brilliant effort as they totally dominated the Americans throughout the game preventing them from scoring any goals.
