Australia-A hammer USA Men’s national hockey team 5-2 in third match in Moorpark, California
The Australian-A hockey team has defeated the US national hockey outfits 5-2 in the third match of the four match test series played at Moorpark in California, USA on Tuesday, September 20.
The game was entertaining as the Australians dominated their opponents for most of the game as in the first thirty five minutes they scored four goals. They made a single strike in the second part of the game whereas their opponents could only manage two
goals in the second half while they remained scoreless in the first thirty five minutes. The Australian athletes played wonderfully throughout the match and they seemed as solid in their defence as aggressive in attack.
The first half started with some early action by the Australians as they created some good chances in the starting moments of the first before they were awarded a penalty corner just five minutes into play. Matthew Willis made no mistake and opened the Australian
account.
Leading the game by one goal to nil, the Australians continued to put huge pressure on USA defence and they again came across another scoring opportunity in the middle of the first half when Adrian Lockley doubled the Australian lead in the 20th
minute with a beautiful field goal. They took just another minute to further strengthen their lead and this time it was Joshua Miller who brought a wonderful goal into sight on open play in the 21st minute.
The US athletes also created their chances but they failed to convert those opportunities into goals while the Australians again ticked the score board five minutes before the interval when Craig Boyne scored the fourth goal for Australia in the 30th
minute. The first half closed at 4-0.
The second half also started with the same tempo as the first one. The Australian athletes first penetrated into the US circle just two minutes into the play and Tom Wickham easily converted a beautifully built pass into their fifth goal in the 37th
minute to make it 5-0 for Australia-A.
The US athletes eventually succeeded in the 47th minute when they earned a penalty corner and Jared Martin scored the opening goal for the hosts before Will Holt scored the second and the final of the match in the 66th minute also on
a penalty corner.
In the previous two matches both teams remained victorious for once as the hosts scored a victory by 2-1 in the opening game of the series while the Australians clobbered the hosts 7-2 in the second match of the series. The Australians dominated the Americans
with a brilliant overall performance on the field.
