http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 in control until day 2
New Zealand were in a strong position against Australia A in a four day match at the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Allan-Robert-Border-c43726 Field, Brisbane in Australia on Friday, November 25, 2011.
At stumps on day two, the hosts had a first innings trail of 236 runs with six wickets remaining, as they scored 187/4.
Earlier, the Kiwi side was all out for 423 runs in their first innings. Star batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/BB-McCullum-c1129 was in menacing form, as he clobbered 146 runs off just 115 balls with the help of 21 fours and six thunderous sixes.
Australia A’s skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/George-Bailey-c1480 won the toss and elected to field first, but the decision turned out to be a wrong one, as the opposition got away with a blistering start.
New Zealand’s openers McCullum and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Guptill-c1980 put on 148 runs for the first wicket and hammered the bowlers to all parts of the park.
The former proved to be devastating for the bowlers, as he showed no mercy. He scored majority of the runs in the partnership and eased the pressure on his partner at the other end.
However, Guptill was unable to make most of the start to his innings, getting dismissed after collecting 43 runs. He has been criticised in the past for throwing his wicket away after getting a start and would have been disappointed with his dismissal.
First-drop http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KS-Williamson-c1813 failed to make most of the conditions and was sent back to the pavilion after scoring just three runs. His side was in complete control when he came out to bat, but was unable to make an impression.
McCullum was the third wicket to fall in the innings, but he had done the damage until then, scoring a fabulous century. The flamboyant right-handed batsman will look to continue the same form in the upcoming two match Test series against Australia.
The Kiwi skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/LRPL-Taylor-c1849 looked to steady the innings and scored a decent half-century. He scored 57 runs with the help of nine boundaries before being dismissed.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JD-Ryder-c1679, Doug Brownlie and wicketkeeper batsman Reece Young were unable to make an impression and got out cheaply.
However, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Doug-Bracewell-c1394 played a solid knock of 73 runs, guiding his side to 423 runs in the end.
The home team’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/James-Pattinson-c1653 was the pick of the bowlers, taking four wickets in the innings.
Australia A were given a solid start by openers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-Graham-Downton-c44379 Cowan, as the pair out together 91 runs for the first wicket.
However, the former was dismissed after contributing 65 runs to the total and the team lost three more wickets after that.
Cowan remained unbeaten until close of play on day two, as he scored 60 runs with the help of nine fours.
Bracewell had a good time with the ball, as he scalped three wickets in the day.
