Australia Capital Territory trounce South Australia 7-1 in AHL Classification Round
Glenn Turner and Lucas Judge joined hands to score couple as Australian Capital Territory (ACT) clobbered Southern Australia (SA) by six goals, 7-1 in the classification round of the Australian Hockey League (AHL) played on August 12 at the Sydney Olympic
Park.
It was a hard fought game where both teams were in the hunt for a spot in the title-claiming match. Both ACT and SA did not lose their hopes and dedication with the game in any point of the fixture. The level of intensity and competitiveness was high with
both teams.
The two squads accomplished attacks against each other in the opening minutes. However, the defenders were not ready to pass through the ball. Lucas Judge, the veteran striker from ACT found a great chance to open the scoring in the 4th minute
of the mark. William Telfer made a spectacular dive to clear the ball from the danger zone. He put in a decent performance in the first half.
However, the SA defenders were not lucky for the third time and failed to block the maiden goal. The ACT team was awarded a penalty stroke that was tested in the hands of Glenn Turner in the 9th minute of the mark.
However, the players particularly the attackers from South Australia were not ready to accept the lead. They carried out back-to-back strikes against ACT and succeeded to level the results in the 18th minute. Tom Wickham received a pass from the
mid-field, comfortably chipped in into the goal and brought the score even at one-all.
The game continued with similar fast-pace that enthralled the spectators. Woerter Hermkens missed a chance to take a go-ahead goal when his shot went over the cross-bars. Lucas Judge did not fail in his attempt and wonderfully converted the short corner
in the 30th minute. He marked a reverse flicking shot that moved into the South Australian’s goal. It was the overall action in the first half as ACT was sitting ahead by 2-1.
The second half completely belonged to ACT which obtained another five goals while holding opponents goalless throughout the period.
With two minutes into the second period, Glenn Turner managed to drive the ball in front of the goal and marked a classic shot into the backboard. In a matter of four minutes, Hermkens scored off a short corner further expanded the lead. In the later time,
Daniel Borrett managed a goal from the field effort and took the lead up to four goals. With six minutes remaining on the clock, Judge and his team-mate Jack Wallace scored one goal each and sealed the bonus-point victory at 7-1.
