Australia Country Championship: Day two recap – Hockey Update
The second day of the Australia Country Championship 2011 which is hosted by the Port Lincoln Hockey Association has concluded at the Ravendale Community Sports Centre, South Australia on July 31. There were some hard fought battles and some good goal scoring
contests.
The game between New South Wales (NSW) and Queensland was very well balanced till the end where NSW scored the late moment equaliser to deprive Queensland, the reigning champions from the victory. Although Queensland took the early lead they could not capitilse
on it until the end.
The Men’s match of the day was played between South Australia (SA) and ADF where SA snatched a well fought victory defeating ADF by 8-6. The game was quite entertaining as there were a number of strikes made in the match. SA controlled the game from the
starting whistle to the end by consistently ticking the scoreboard and continued to find the ADF nets throughout the match. SA managed to restrict ADF’s offence with some tremendous defensive play.
In another exciting match, Western Australia (WA) defeated Victoria by 3-2, dominating the entire course of time by consistently ticking the scoreboard and controlling the game. WA remained clinical throughout the match but their real threat emerged in the
last forty seconds in which they scored two goals to deprive Victoria from a well deserved victory. It was a tremendous match-up as both teams fought hard for victory.
Meanwhile, in the first Women’s match, Queensland recorded a hard fought victory over NSW defeating them by difference of only a single goal 2-1. The game was quite a close contest but the Queenslanders held their nerves till the end and scored an all important
victory. The Women’s match was just as competitive as the Men’s game. Queensland dominated NSW with some brilliant stick work and offensive strategy.
In the second match of the day, Victoria defeated WA by the same margin as Queensland recorded over NSW. Like the first women’s game the match was very tough as both teams had their chances throughout the match but it was Victoria which converted one extra
chance than WA and took the victory.
In the final match ADF downed SA by 3-2, same margin in the earlier two games of the day, in a very close contest. The game was quite entertaining but with the clear dominance of ADF in the first half and a great effort by the local ladies in the second
half as they came near to level the game but remained unsuccessful.
Day two of the Australian Country Championship was filled with some very tough and competitive matches on both the Men’s and Women’s division.
