Captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Babar-Azam-c1122 led from the front as Pakistan U-19 defeated Australia U-19 by a convincing margin of six wickets at the Kerrydale Oval, Gold Coast, in the opening match of the Youth ODI series.
After winning the toss, Pakistani skipper put Australia into bat, who were bowled out for 187 in the 47th over.
Australia’s batting started disastrously as they lost both openers Cameron Bancroft and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Buchanan-c48808 was sent packing with the addition of only 25 runs for the third wicket.
Kurtis Patterson held the innings together with a patient knock of 83 and in the company of Captain William Bosisto, who scored 24, saved the team from total disaster with a stand of 67 for the fourth wicket.
From the Australian batting line up, only 5 batsmen made it into the double figures in a total of 187.
For Pakistan, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Usman-Qadir-c94698 all chipped in with 1 wicket apiece.
Pakistan’s chase started in the worst possible way as they lost inform opener Sami Aslam in the fifth over with the score board showing only 7 runs on the board.
Babar Azam however, found an able ally in Imam-ul-Haq, and both took the score to 87 before the latter was caught by Bancroft, off the bowling of Sandhu.
The skipper didn’t fall short of support at the other end and found another warrior in Umar Waheed. They both dug deep and took the score to 167 before Azam was caught behind off the bowling of Joel Paris for 79. Until then he had played his role and victory
was very much in sight with only 21 required from the remaining 9.3 overs.
Pakistan lost one more wicket in their chase when Saad Ali was snapped by Buchanan on the total of 180 in the 44th over, but only a miracle would have denied them a well deserved victory at that stage.
Umar Waheed was there till the end with an unbeaten knock of 34, and Nawaz scored 6 not out. Pakistan achieved their target with 4 overs to spare and 6 wickets remaining.
Australian captain, Bosisto, was full of praise for his Pakistani counterpart Babar Azam, who was instrumental in the team’s victory.
"[Pakistan's] captain, who opened the batting today, was very solid all day and kept the batting ticking over," William Bosisto, the Australian captain, said after the match.
The next game of the three match series will be played on July 31 at the same venue.
