Australia Under-19s v Pakistan Under-19s - Pakistan Under-19s in Australia Youth ODI Series (3rd Youth ODI) – Match Update
Despite having lost the first two games, and consequently the three-match Youth ODI series against the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 Under-19s managed to redeem themselves and salvage their pride with a comprehensive 8-wicket win in the 3rd
and final ODI, played at the Kerrydale Oval in Gold Coast today on August 3.
The Pakistan Under-19s won the toss and elected to bat first, but Australia’s Ashton Turner (10-0-38-3), aided by Joel Paris (10-1-40-2) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Paul-Harrison-c2165 Conway (9-0-25-2) restricted them to 179, with only three batsmen managing double digit scores.
Openers Sami Aslam (4) and skipper Babar Azam (0) were dismissed early, by Paris and Conway respectively, but Pakistan found some respite in the innings of Imam-ul-Haq (77). He stuck it out at the crease throughout the dismissal of Faraz Ali (who was sent
back to the pavilion on duck by Paris), but his 128-run 4th wicket partnership with Umar Waheed (52) succeeded in raising the team total up to 136 by the 38th over.
However, following the dismissal of the duo, Pakistan were unable to work their way back into the game, and Australia sent the batsmen packing one after the other. Mohammad Nawaz (14), http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zafar-Gohar-Khan-c98408 (0), and Ehsan Adil (8)
all fell in a flurry of wickets and Pakistan stood, all out, at 179 by the 48th over.
In response, Australia breezed through their chase, successfully reaching 180 at the expense of just 2 wickets, with 10 deliveries remaining, while Pakistan’s Babar Azam and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Nawaz-c77155 remained the only ones who managed to take wickets (one each).
Cameron Bancroft (who was declared the Player of the Match and the Player of the Series) scored an emphatic 76, and his partnerships – a 63-run stand with Meyrick http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Buchanan-c48808 (28) and an 87-run stand with Kurtis Patterson (52*) – got the team up to 150 by the
39th over, after which he was dismissed by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Babar-Azam-c1122.
However, a final unbeaten 30-run partnership between Patterson and Sam Hain (9*) got the team comfortably up to 180 – a victory which will provide the Australia Under-19s some consolation, after having lost the series.
