http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 Under-19 World Cup warm-up match, played today on August 8
at the Bill Albury Oval in Brisbane.
Australia won the toss and opted to bat first, opening with Peirson (128) and Meyrick http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Buchanan-c48808 (13). With the exception of Ruaidhri Smith ....., who managed to claim the first wicket of the innings, dismissing
Buchanan, lbw, in the 8th over, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Scotland-c756 relied entirely upon Aman Bailwal (10-1-52-5), who claimed 5 of the 6 wickets his side took.
Australia’s top four put up a solid display, with Kurtis Patterson (39) and Travis Head (87) contributing substantial scores before the former was dismissed by Bailwal. Peirson eventually retired hurt in the 39th over, and by the time Head was
bowled by Bailwal in the 45th over, Australia had reached 280 for 4.
The respectable score did not make the remainder of the batting order complacent, and Nick http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Stevens-c91368 (19), skipper William Bosisto (10), and Ashton Turner (10) all chipped in to bring their side up to 315 by the end of 50 overs.
Scotland’s top order got their innings off to a fair start, with opener Mathew Cross scoring a valiant 104. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ross-Alexander-McLean-c86871 (32) also chipped in with a vital contribution, and by the time the first wicket fell in the 17th over (McLean was dismissed
by Turner), Scotland had reached 106.
Tom McBride found himself dismissed on duck by Joel Paris (10-1-49-2), and Cross eventually fell prey to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Henry-Richard-Edwards-c62725
(53), and Peter Ross (24*) all adding significantly to the total.
However, the lower order underwent a shocking collapse, which saw no less than 5 batsmen dismissed on duck, four of those dismissals coming at the hands of Sandhu. Ruaidhri http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Smith-c90598 .....
was sent packing lbw, in the 42nd over, and Bailwal, Sam Page, and Kyle Smith were all sent back to the pavilion one after the other in the 44th over, without having contributed a single run.
By the time Scott McElnea (0) was taken care of by Head, Scotland had collapsed to a 71-run defeat, cut short at 244, all out, by the 46th over.
