Question:

Australia: Where to go, what not to miss?

I recently had a mad month in New Zealand (my fourth time).

I'm now planning a mad two months for Australia, but I haven't travelled Aus that much, so don't know where the best bits are...

Already done Tasmania though...

Any recommendation or anything I should not miss?

Will be going around March next year...

Cheers

Sam

  1. go steal ur self a pet kangaroo

  2. It really depends what you are interested in?

Scenery?  Then you have to go to WA and the NT.  Places like Ayres Rock and the Kimberleys are so spectacular.  Just gorgeous and out in the middle of nowhere.  Great if you want to get away from it all.

City & Party?  Sydney and Melbourne all the way!  You also have the landmarks such as Opera House and the Harbour Bridge in Sydney, and drives in Melbourne like the Great Ocean Road to see the 12 Apostles (of which I think there are only 9 or something now?  Don't quote me on that!)

Sun & Surf?  Queensland.  Gold Coast is touristy but has great beaches and surf and there are the theme parks if you are interested in that?  (Though they are nothing compared to the Disneylands and Disneyworlds)  Cairns is wonderful if you want a bit more peace, and you can see the Great Barrier Reef there too which is lovely.

Gormet?  Adelaide (Barossa Valley) or Perth (Margaret River) or NSW (Hunter Valley) are wonderful places to go for good wine and yummy food.  Some beautiful scenery too.  QLD has Stanthorpe which is great as well but much smaller than the other areas.

  3. you definately have to queensland, do all the theme parks, went n wild, movie world, dream world and sea world

go to surfers paradise....best beaches and heaps of hot guys.

sydney harbour bridge is also good.

    hope this helps abit

  4. QLD:

Skydive over Caloundra beach- Great view

Take a sailing cuise (3 nights) around Whitsunday Island. I was on the ship 'Spank Me'- lots of fun!

    Theme Parks

Wine Tour of South Burnett (Kingaroy, where I am from, is a great place to drink loads of cheap wine!)

Try and find somewhere that holds a huge racing carnival (horses, camels or otherwise) such as Birdsville or Burrandowan that are on that month. Big p**s ups, lots of fun.

    NSW

Climb Mt Warning- views of Byron Bay

Check out Janolan and Wombean Caves- you should still be able to do a tour

Hire a motorbike and check out the ranges behind Bellingen and head down along the coast road to Illawarra, going through Bulli and Thirroul- gorgeous winding roads.

Go to an AFL/Cricket/NRL game at Telstra stadium

    FOX Studios

    WA

    Wine tour through Margaret River

    Surfing at Margaret river

    Weekend at Rottnest Island

Pub Crawls through Fremantle are AWESOME

Kings park in Perth is nice.

You should try and find out when the Red Bull air races are on at the Swan River. That'd be good!

I could go on but I'm off to bed. Enjoy your stay!

  5. They have an exciting wild life! If I were as fortunate as you, I'd got dive to see the Great Barrier Reef. I've only seen it in pictures and I'm dying to see it for real. I read about it in socialtravellersite (dotcom) You might want to visit that site.

  6. Buy or rent from your library the book "1000 Places To See Before You Die" by Patricia Schultz. This book has AMAZING ideas and not all of them are the obvious ones like the Opera House in Sydney.

    Best wishes!
