Bolstered by an unbeaten half-ton from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sarah-Jane-Taylor-c88769, the England Women claimed a comprehensive 7-wicket victory over the Australia Women during their Group A match in the ongoing ICC Women’s World Twenty20, 2012, played at the Galle International Stadium today on October 1.
The Australia Women won the toss and elected to bat first, and despite the efforts of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Katherine-Helen-Brunt-c70447 (4-0-24-1), the team managed to post a decent total of 144 by the end of 20 overs.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Alyssa-Jean-Healy-c43856 (9) opened the innings for their team, and while they managed to set up a partnership of 35 runs, Healy was unable to apply herself at the crease for long, caught and bowled by Brunt in the 5th over.
Lanning followed her to the pavilion in the 8th over, caught out by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Simon-James-Marshall-c90362 in the 11th over, leaving her side at 71 for 3.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Alexandra-Joy-Blackwell-c43285 (27) managed to steady the innings somewhat with a 54-run partnership for the fourth wicket, which got the team total up to 125 by the 18th over - however, their stand was cut short with the departure of Sthalekar off Shrubsole.
Blackwell soldiered on, joined by skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rachael-Louise-Haynes-c83221 (1*) at the crease, the Australia Women posted a final total of 144.
The England Women, however, breezed through the chase, reaching 146 within 19 overs, at the expense of just 3 wickets.
Opener Laura Marsh was ineffective, dismissed by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Taylor-c92915 (who top-scored for the team with an unbeaten 65).
Edwards was sent packing by Jess Jonassen in the 9th over, but Taylor powered on, establishing a 39-run stand with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ellyse-Alexandra-Perry-c55924 in the 13th over, but the England Women lost no more wickets as an unbeaten 63-run partnership between Taylor and Wyatt (33*) saw the team safely to 146, granting them a 7-wicket victory with 11 balls remaining.
