New Zealand Women captain Suzie Bates led from the front with a massive unbeaten century, and successfully guided her side to an 8-wicket victory over the Australia Women, in the first ODI of the 4-match Rose Bowl series, played today on December 12 at the
Sydney Cricket Ground.
The host team won the toss and chose to bat first, but their attempts to rack up a daunting total were obstructed by the assaults of the New Zealand Women’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sian-Elizabeth-Ansley-Ruck-c90176 (9.1-1-37-2).
Opener Meg Lanning top-scored for the team with 87, and was joined by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Leah-Joy-Poulton-c72374 (11) for an opening partnership which looked to be progressing steadily, and had yielded 44 runs before Ruck struck the first blow, sending Poulton packing in the 7th
over.
Her successors Jess Cameron (6) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Katey-Jane-Martin-c70440 off Nielsen. However, Lanning remained fixed at the crease, and by Blackwell’s dismissal in
the 20th over, had enabled the team to work their way up to 97 for 4.
Lanning found an able partner in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sarah-Coyte-c88762 (18), and both batters joined forces for a 51-run partnership for the 5th wicket, which got the team total up to 148. However, both were eventually dismissed in successive overs – Coyte fell prey to

237, but both were eventually taken out of the game by Candy.
Jess Jonassen (3) failed to keep the team’s momentum going, and following her dismissal off Ruck in the 49th over, the Australia Women were all out at 248.
