Australia and Brazil win: FIBA U-19 World Championship for Women Roundup July 22, 2011(Part 4)
Australia 77 – Chile 46
In Group-C game, Australia overthrew Chile 77-46 win and continued their successful run in the championship.  Australians ruffled Chile with their field goal shooting on the night. Team Australia shot 46.7 percent, while Chile
made a meagre 25.8 percent shooting from the field.
Tayla Roberts led the Australians with a double-double. She scored 20 points, on 90 percent shooting from the field and 50 percent from the free throw line, and clutched10 rebounds in nearly 21 minutes. Tayla was the only player,
who touched double-figure mark in the Australian squad. Alexandra Bunton and Gretel Tippett tallied nine points apiece for Australia.
From Chile, Fernanda Serrano was the top scorer with 13 points while Barbara Cousino added 11 points in the game.
Australia took charge straight away and secured the first quarter 23-14. After a disappointing performance in the first ten minutes, the Chileans completely choked in the second quarter and were reduced to just 8 points.
Australia, which led Chile 35-22, continued to dominate in the period that followed and cruised to a 77-46 win.
Brazil 67 – Slovenia 50
In another game in Group-D on Friday, Brazil grabbed their second win of the tournament with a 67-50 victory over Slovenia.
Damiris Dantas led Brazil with 21 points, nine rebounds and one steal. She shot 57.1 percent from the field and 45.5 percent from the charity stripe, during her 31 minutes stay on court. Besides Dantas, Isabela Ramona scored 11
points, clutched seven rebounds and made three steals.   
For Slovenia, Tjasa Gortnar scored 17 points, grasped seven rebounds, catered one assist and made one steal too. She played for 36 minutes during which she hit 50 percent from the field and 100 percent from the stripe. Nina Gabrovsek
and Eva Rupnik also made 12 points each.
After losing their first game, Slovenia were looking to make a comeback in the tournament and they did well in the first quarter, against their much fancied opponents. The quarter was closely fought as both teams countered each
other. Brazil however snatched a two point lead at 19-17 going into the second quarter.
Brazil pushed the paddle further in the second quarter and rattled Slovenia with 13-6 spurt. By the time, the first half concluded, the South Americans led the Slovenians 32-23. Brazil became even more aggressive after the break
and outscored the Slovenians 22-12  to establish their hold on the game. They led Slovenia by 54-35 going into the final quarter and were never threatened again as they cruised to a 17 point win.
