Australia and England eye the World Cup at the start of a seven match ODI series
The Australian and England teams have their eyes set on the World Cup due to start in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 next month.
The series will commence at the historic Melbourne Cricket Ground-one of the most prestigious venues around the world. The teams squared two thoroughly entertaining T20 matches.
The hosts fought back to win the second match at MCG by 4 runs after they had lost the opening cliff-hanger at the Adelaide Oval by 1 wicket.
England, which is currently world champions of the T20 cricket, is playing arguably the best cricket of their 40 year association with the ODI format that was inaugurated with the first ever ODI taking place between the two teams at the
same venue in January 1971.
The last year was extremely successful for them in the ODI matches, after winning the T20 World Championship in the Caribbean, they won the ODI series against Australia, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755.
They have the momentum going in these series after their historic Ashes win earlier this month; the tourists won the epic contest 3-1 with all of them being innings victories. As such the onus is on the hosts to turn the tables on their
bitter rivals.
Australian captain Michael Clarke is banking on his express pace bowlers Shaun Tait, Brett Lee and Mitchell Johnson to deliver the goods in the seven match vigil, the trio is expected to be rotated in various stages of the series.
"I see them as wicket-taking bowlers. It's not a bad problem to have when you have three strike bowlers in one squad", claimed Clarke during a media briefing on the eve of the series.
On the other hand English captain, Andrew Strauss stated that his team would be trying its best to keep up the momentum in the 50 over match. Strauss, who does not play the T20 format at international level, thinks that his team would have
to start all over again and not bank on the exploits of the Ashes to take them through the contest.
"Momentum heading into the World Cup's crucial. Both sides will be very up for the series and to be thinking 'ah well, we won the Ashes' will take away from our intensity." The two teams have some explosive names in their squads who have
the ability to set alight cricket fields. The touristw would be relying on players like Kevin Pietersen, Eoin Morgan, Graeme Swann and youngster Chris Woakes who won the first match for England.
