Australia banking on Mr. Cricket
Australia are in a dilemma before going into this year’s Ashes, which is nearly less than two weeks away. The main problem is that the young players have not performed well and it is up to the aging Australian pros to get the team
through the Ashes.
The Australian squad is depending on its most important and talented batsman Michael Hussey to get his form back and help his side in snatching the Ashes from a very formidable English side.
However, Hussey has not been in the best of his form and has been struggling for almost a year to find his rhythm in Test cricket. The player, who is also known as Mr. Cricket, has not played a match winning innings since the semi-final
of ICC’s T20 World Cup against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 in May this year.
The seasoned late middle order batsman is in dire need of advice and Greg Chappell, who happens to be an Australian selector, has come forward to help the struggling player with some useful tips.
Chappell has advised Hussey to play with freedom and without any fear if he wants to play international cricket for a bit longer. Chappell said, “As you get older, the difficulty is that you are aware of the things that can go
wrong and you’re aware of how hard it is to make runs at that level consistently. Before you have all that experience, you tend to go out and you can play with a little bit more freedom.”
Chappell wants Hussey to think just as he used to think as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/A-Young-c41367 player because he will only be able to play with some risk if he starts thinking like that. Chappell knows that as the player ages it becomes more and more difficult
for him to play with freedom. As a senior player, every cricketer wants to play a sensible innings without taking any risks, but it is time that Michael Hussey starts taking some risks in order to get his flamboyant form back.
Michael Hussey has been the backbone for Australia ever since he entered international cricket and now, when Hussey, at the age of 35, is heading towards the end of his career, Australia do not seem to have any young lad as his
replacement.
For the first time in nearly a decade, Australia are without any dependable backup and now all hopes of winning the Ashes are on the veteran players such as Michael Hussey, Ricky Ponting and Simon Katich. This has created a bit
of a concern for the Australian cricket board, as the replacement of these old pros is not available at the moment.
Michael Hussey managed to score only 71, 15 and 6 in three One-Day matches against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 that is quite low for his standards. Hussey needs to bring back his lost form as soon as possible otherwise it will be very difficult
for him to keep his place in the playing eleven, and without Hussey http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 might find it very difficult to go against the English side in the Ashes.
The dilemma faced by the Australian selectors right now is that young players such as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Phillip-Hughes-c2185 and Callum Ferguson are not scoring big runs who were supposed to replace the aging batting line-up of the national
squad. Therefore, it only makes sense to keep supporting the experienced players at least until the Ashes.
