Australia continued the winning run against England in the limited overs format of the game as the world champions beat the T-20 champions by 4 wickets in the 3rd ODI. The 7 match series is now 3-0 in favour of Australia and England look tired
and home sick at the end of a 3 month long tour. Batting first, England managed just 214 runs, and, at one stage, Australia looked to have thrown it away in the chase. But David Hussey guided his team to a comprehensive win in the end.
England had won the toss and decided to make first use of the deck. The decision, though, backfired pretty quickly for the visitors. Matt Prior, included in the team for his batting exploits in the Ashes, once again could not get going. The right hander
was dismissed for naught, as he was given LBW off the bowling of Brett lee. Jonathan Trott, who scored 2 centuries in the Ashes, walked in at number 3 and looked well. Andrew Strauss, though, was having a start stop innings. Strauss was sold a dummy by his
partner as a yes-no run ended in both batsmen standing at one end. Strauss was run out for 23 runs.
Ian Bell was next; he hung around for a while but managed just 10 runs. Bell was caught and bowled brilliantly by Shane http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Watson-c96326. Eoin Morgan, one of the calmest players in world cricket, came in at number 5, and put on a good stand with Trott. The two added
57 runs, but the scoring rate was nothing to brag about. Morgan was dismissed for 30 runs- he was caught by Michael http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clarke-c51120 off David Hussey. Paul Collingwood has not been in good form in any form of cricket on this tour, and it did not change in this game
either. Collingwood was cleaned up by Xavier Doherty for just 1. Wickets kept tumbling from one end as Trott held it together at the other. Luke Wright was the only man to offer any sort of support with 32 runs.
Jonathan Trott remained unbeaten on 84 runs as England were all out for 214 runs in the 48th over. Brett Lee took the maximum number of wickets- 3.
The Australian chase did not begin very brightly; Shane Watson, the centurion from the first game, was bowled out by Chris Tremlet for just 9 runs. Under pressure, Brad Haddin showed quite some class and went for his shots, while another centurion from the
series, Shaun Marsh, came and went for just 6 runs. Michael Clarke's nightmare season continued as he was out for just 9 runs.
Cameron White was in next, but he followed the trend and could not score in double figures- he was given LBW for just 7. Chasing 215, Australia were at 92 for 5 and England had a great chance of making the series 2-1. Brad Haddin's dismissal at 54 made the
score 100 for 5. Australia, once again, needed a hero, and David Hussey answered the call. He did a job normally associated with his brother Michael. Hussey, alongside Steven Smith, put on a good rear guard stand and added 63 for the 6th wicket.
Later, Jon Hastings, the all rounder, joined him and the two guided Australia to win with 4 overs in hand. Hussey was unbeaten on 68 and was named man of the match. Australia won the game by 4 wickets and now lead the 7 match series 3-0.
