Australia beat New Zealand by 7 wickets in ICC World Cup 2011
Australia eased to a seven-wicket win over New Zealand with 96 balls remaining in their Group A match of the ICC World Cup 2011. The match was played at Nagpur in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 won the toss and elected to field first considering the overnight rain at Nagpur. Although there wasn’t much assistance for the bowlers off the track, Australian bowlers weren’t disappointed by their captain’s decision, as the Kiwi batsmen threw
their wickets away.
The start to the innings was promising for New Zealand as Brendon McCullum was hitting the ball cleanly. However, he threw his wicket away after scoring just 16 runs off 12 balls. Martin Guptill was then joined by Jesse Ryder in the middle and the pair looked
to lay a solid platform for the middle-order. However, Guptill struggled for his 10 runs from 25 balls and was eventually cleaned-up by Shane Watson.
Ryder looked threatening for his 25 runs off 31 balls but he fished at a ball outside the off-stump, which took the edge of his bat, and wicketkeeper Brad Haddin held the catch neatly. From 66 for two, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 slumped to 73 for the loss of six wickets
after the middle-order collapsed completely. Scott Styris and James Franklin got out without adding any run to the total whereas; Ross http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Taylor-c92915 only managed seven runs before getting out.
Jamie How and Nathan McCullum consolidated the innings with a 48-run partnership for the seventh wicket, but How wasn’t able to carry onto the start he got, and was out after amassing 22 runs from 47 balls. Captain of the black-caps Daniel Vettori provided
good support to McCullum and the pair amassed a 54-run stand for their team. McCullum scored a valiant 52 off 76 balls and got out.
Vettori did his best to help his team reach a decent total, but failed to bat out the complete overs and was dismissed after scoring 44 runs from 43 balls. The Kiwis were bowled-out for 206 runs in 45.1 overs. Mitchell Johnson and Shaun Tait were exceptional
with the ball as they took four and three wickets respectively.
Australia got off to a flying start courtesy their flamboyant openers Watson and Haddin. The pair gave a 133-run opening partnership to their team and stamped their authority on the match. They were both out in the same over after scoring half-centuries.
The first wicket to fall was that of Haddin, who scored 55 runs off 50 balls, while http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clarke-c51120 and Cameron White remained unbeaten
on 24 and 22 to guide their team to a victory in just 34 overs.
Hamish Bennett gave away too many runs, but picked up two wickets in the match. The only other wicket-taker was Tim Southee, who grabbed one wicket.
