Australia continued their winning ways demolishing anything and everything that comes in their way, the 5 time world champions look set to take the world by storm in this year's world T20, which is one tournament they are yet to win, but the way the Aussies are set up this time round, it would be hard for any side to even come close to them, with a batting line up which runs deep down the order, batsmen in abundance who can take apart any attack, and bowling attack which can send shivers down the spines of any batting line up in the world, with 4 bowlers who can touch the 90 mile pace barrier consistently.
In their 2nd match in the super 8 stage they once again proved how many match winners they have in their team, after winning the toss Michael Clarke elected top bat first, but was soon forced to reconsider his decision, as Sri Lanka pacers rattled the top order leaving Australia at 30 for 3, with the big hitting openers Watson and Warner both leaving early on score of 1 and 9 respectively, followed by the Wicketkeeper batsman Brad Haddin who could only manage 15, and the t20 specialist David Hussey was also dismissed with the score at 30 as he made a first ball duck.
Australia at that point were in serious problems but knew if they can hobble through this period they have enough firepower down the order to take them to a respectable score, and Captain Michael Clarke put together a rear guard partnership alongside Cameron White, as both put on 37 for the 5th wicket, and as Clarke was dismissed for 14 with the score at 67 at the end of 11th over, in came who else but Mr. Cricket Michael Hussey who started to feel himself into the innings at start while Cameron White opened his shoulders at the other hand using the long handle with good effect smashing Ajanta Mendis for 2 big sixes in one over, and Hussey later joined in the fun in his typical calculated effortless style, and both propelled the Aussie score in the final overs with some ferocious hitting, taking the score to 168 for 5. White was not out on 85 with 6 fours and 6 massive sixes, while Hussey was unbeaten at 39.
Against the formidable Aussie pace attack Sri Lanka were always going to struggle to get to the target of 169 and so it proved, the inform player Jayawedene was bound to fail sooner or later due to the unsaid law of averages and the sadly for Lankanas that day was today, as he was dismissed for just 9, while Jaysuriya did not impress either sent back for just 5. Before which Captain Sangakara was caught behind on a really quick one from Shaun Tait, the Aussie pace duo of Nannes and Tait simply blew away the Sri Lanka top order leaving them 48 for 4 when last year's top scorer Dilshan was also sent packing when the 3rd pace man Johnson was brought into the attack, and last year's runner ups just had no answer to Australian bowling attack, as even Leg Spinner smith claimed 2, sinking the Lankans to 87 all out, handing Australia a massive 81 run win.
Cameron White was declared man of the match for his brilliant knock and leading Australia into the semi finals of the t20 world cup.
