Australia beat USA in Women’s water polo playoff: Day seven – 2012 Pan Pacs, Melbourne
Australian water polo squad has beaten USA in the Women’s water polo playoff on seventh day of the 2012 Pan Pacs at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre (MSAC) on Saturday, January 14.
The Australian players showed no mercy to their challenging team and grabbed gold medal of the water polo event by a margin of three goals. They remained dominant over American experts and captured an easy 7-4 win in the four-quarter game.
After the conclusion of first quarter, USA stepped up on the score with a 0-1 effort. However, the Australian team accelerated their efforts in the second quarter and scored three goals. Their struggle was trailed by USA’s squad, which scored two goals in round two and the score went 3-all after first half.
The Australian team continued their efforts and gave no chance to American players in the second round as they advanced on the scorecard by two goals while USA failed to show any improvement. The score went up to 5-3 after the third round.
Subsequently, Australia found the cage twice in final round while USA managed to notch up a single goal against their competitor and lost the match by three goals.
In the meantime, the arena witnessed a remarkable struggle of Canadian squad that overwhelmed China for bronze medal in the Women’s water polo tournament. China lost the match 6-10 from Canada.
Canada proved its supremacy over China in the first quarter, where they scored five goals to overcome China’s three goals effort. In second round, the Chinese failed to ascend on the scorecard as they earned only one goal while Canada succeeded in scoring two goals. The halftime expired at a score of 4-7.
Just like the first half, Canada continued its reign in the second half, scoring one goal in round three and two goals in round four. On the other side, China scored one goal each in both rounds and ended in fourth place.
The crowd admired relentless efforts of all team players, who tried hard to secure top positions in their respective matches. Furthermore, the winning teams were awarded accolades for their struggles after the completion of session.
